Using you Kanzashi

Traditional use of a Kanzashi was used for women while wearing a Kimono.

I decided to make my Kanzashi in an elegant style with a modern twist.

My Kanzashi can match any occasion such as a formal dinner, a casual outing, and of course you may still wear it with a Kimono.

So I would like to introduce you to KanzashiR and please feel free to contact me with any questions.

In Japan, It is the first day in "Golden week" . The end of April through the first week of May is called "Golden Week" in Japan , and it  is one of the biggest holiday season besides New Year and Obon.  There are many national holidays during this period, so  many  offices close and many people enjoy taking a trip. So, tourist attractions are very busy over the period, and  there are so crouded at airports and train stations

I think the Golden week  is a really suitable name for this season since not only big vacation for people, but also big economic impact ;)

Requiem

Japan relief phone charm

n Sunday in my country Japan was remembering the massive earthquake one year ago. Over 15,000 people dead and over 3,000 people are missing by the tragedy.  Moreover, some 343,935 people has still rendered homeless remain in temporary housing.

When I saw the news on TV first time, I was not able to believe that it happened in my country. I cried a lot, and  kept calling my family in Japan untill I could confirm their safe. Eventhough my family were all safe, I was not able to stop thinking about people living in the Tohoku area.  It has past one year already, but I have been still thinking about them.

After I moved to U.S.A, there have been  much more opportunities to feel  I am a Japanese. Actually, when I lived in Japan,  all my friends were Japanese, so I had never thought about my nationality deeply. When the earthquake happened in Japan, I thought I had to something to do and  realized how much I loved in my country.

I know not only Japanesse, but also a lot of people living in other countries have worried about Japan, and I really appreciate all of your supports.   I will never forget your kindness and warm hearts.

Custom-made Kanzashi

white Kanzashi

I made this Kanzashi for one of my customers. She purchased other Kanzashis before, and said that she really loved them;)  When she sent me message and asked me if I could make a custom made Kanzashi with white Tonbodama for her, I was really happy! As I wrote before, all my Kanzashis have stories, and I still remember them.

I put pink, white, clear, and green beads because I knew those colors suited her taste.

I hope I make stories as much as I can!

Coming of age day "Seijin-shiki"

It was Coming of age day called Seijin-no-hi 2 weeks ago in Japan.  It is an annual celerbration event for people who have reached the age of 20. Japanese people attain legal maturity at age 20, so we are able to vote, drink, and smoke after that. On the day, 20-year-old people attend to the cereblation ceremony called "Seijin-shiki" with formal wear. It is common that women wear Japanese traditional cloth called Kimono. Especcially, the Kimono for young women called " Frisode " which has long sleeb is popular in Seijin-Shiki.
When I was 20-year-old, my parents gave me very beautiful " Furisode ". I still really love it and remember my feeling when I wore it on my Seijin-Shiki :) After that, I have been interested in Kimono, so started learning how to wear Kimono by my self, and I got certificate. When I went to the party with Kimono, many American people gave me their compliments ;)

However, the area was recovered now by big effort and support from a lot of countries. I stayed at my friend's house in Miami beach, and traveled to Key West and Orland. We enjoyed beautiful emerald green sea, breathtaking sunset, and perfect weather!

This photo was taken at Southernmost point in Key West. As you know the name, the place is the southernmost place in U.S.A.  I saw the monument which noted that Cuba was only 90mile away!

The sunset was really really beautiful. I will never forget this wouderful trip :)

Pearl earrings

elegant pearl earrings

I made this earrings for pearl lover!

One of my customers really like pearl items, so she always wears pearl jewelries.

When I got her order, I decided to make not only elegant but also unique earrings for her.

In terms of pearl accessories, usually I have a conservative image because of the simple white color.

Thus, I picked several size and slightly different  white color of pearl beads.

She told me she had never seen the type of pearl earrings, and it was going to be one of her favorite pearl jewelries.

I was really glad to hear from her;)

Happy Halloween!

jack o lantern

It's Halloween day today in U.S.A. I made this Jack o lantern for celeblating this Halloween.

When I lived in Japan, Haloween was not popular. I have known Halloween, but I've never wore costume and made pumpkin carvingr to celeblate Halloween before I moved in U.S.A.

So, It's my first time to make it by my self. I tried to make traditional style one ;)

After I made the Jack's face, I wanted to make it more unique style.

Then, I put moon and stars on the back side, so  when I put a candle inside the pumpkin, I can see the moon and stars on the wall!

I really enjoyed making it and really love this my first caving pumpkin :)

I wanted to keep it forever, but I have to say good-bye to my pumpkin soon...

Because it will spoil soon under the beautiful weather in California!!!!

Have a happy Halloween!!!!

I had a good experience such as seeing beautiful hot springs, breathtaking scenery, powerful gysers, and watching numerous wild animals! I would like to talk about the travel next time :)

Today, I would like to talk about the black tonbodama earrings.

One day, one of my customers e-mailed me and asked if I had any black Tonbodamas and deep purple beads. At that time, I had some black Tonbodamas, but did not have any deep purple beads, so I told her about that and asked  she had any spesific image for the earrings.

From our conversations, I knew she was a Japanese woman and she had been looking for the Japanese taste earrings used black and deep purple bead for long time. So, I decided to looking for deep purple beads. After I found the beads, I made the earrings and sent the picture to her by e-mail.

She said her friend liked really unique style, then she chose the green big Tonbodama for her.
Moreover, she asked me if I could use black, red, and pink beads because these were her friend's favorite color!
Actually, It was my first time to use those antagonistic color together, so I picked several sizes of  beads careflly. Then, I decided to fix the Tonbodama and the pink bead on the hair stick. Usually, I like swing style Kanzashi, but I thought it didn't much for this one.
I heard her friend really liked this Kanzashi, and often use it!
I'm relly glad to hear from her. It was little hard request for me, but I enjoyed making it :)

Travel

Niagara Falls
Sorry for not writing a long time ,because I took a trip to Niagara Falls and Ner York ;)
I really had a great time. Niagara Falls were so beautiful ,and  NY was so exciting city!!
Probably, I will write about this travel more later.
Actually, I had been to both place almost 10years ago from Japan.I could not speak English AT ALL at that time, so both place looked little different.
When I lived In Japan, I studied English at school.  However, the class mainly forcuses for exam such as grammer and reading, so I always felt bored...  Honestly, I really didn't like study English.
When I moved in USA, I was really confused because I could not understand English AT ALL ,and could not reply any questions from other people. I remembered when my friend asked me where I am from, I could not understand the question! I knew the question " Where are you from?" in English in writing or with Japanese accent, but I could not understand REAL English...  I was shocked, and realized I needed to study English hard.
Anyway, I enjoyed this travel, because I could ask anyone when I had questions . Now, I like English because it is great way to converse with people from other countries!  Of course, I stil have to study English hard though ;)

14K earrings for unique color lover

I made this earrings for one of my customer who loved unique color.

She said she liked not only cute, but also antique, unique, and sharp style.

Actually, the order was little hard for me, because if she liked just cute style, I could use pink as a main color, but I knew she didn't like "just girly "style.

I heared her favorite color, and decided to use pink, purple, red, and yellowish perl beads.

To show antique style, I used gold chain of antique color.

When I gave these to her, she said she liked the earrings! I'm really happy to hear from her :)

Personally, I like flower Tonbo-dama because they are not only beautiful, but also graceful.

It's hard to find good quality of Tonbo-dama in here, so I always buy them from Japan due to keeping Japanese style!

Heart lake

Heart lake in Shasta

When I went to Shasta, I went hiking to heart lake because of the heart shape.
The rumor says "Divinities of Love Romance live there."

I heared many people get lost and quit hiking on the way because the lake is located very complicated place. We hiked up from "Castle Lake" to "Heart Lake" for 45 to 50 minutes one way on the trail where there were no signs!!  Can you believe?? There were no signs at all !!!!

Fortunetlly, we could reach the lake and enjoyed the beautiful view. The lake was quite small, but very calm and beautiful. I thought there might be pretty fairies at the lake :)

The hiking is little hard, but if you have an opportunity to go to Shasta, it is worth trying it !

Happy birthday my dear mom!

earrings for cute style lover

It's my mother's birthday today. There are some birthdays of my precious people in September, and my mom's is the first one.

I called her and asked what she wanted, but she always said she didn't need anything.

She likes flower, so I often gave them to her. However, she is now my grandmother's house in thin week, so I cannot send anything to her yet. If I live near my family, I could visit them and ate cakes together.

One of my customer ordered the earrings for her mother's birthday. She told me her mother likes short length and very girlish style such as pink, flower, and so on. So, I pick several pink beads, flower motif, and pearl beads!

I heared the song, "Happy birthday to you", from the kindergarten next my house today, so I sung the song with them to my mom :)

Happy happy birthday, my dear mother!  I miss you a lot!!

earrings for travel

Before I went to the trip, I made new earrings for me.

I didn't want to lose them during the trip, because we had a lot of active plan such as hikig, walking, and drive.

I used earrings which have stoppers, and attached long chain, and connected earrings part and stopper part.

When I use the earrings which have stoppers, I often lose only stopper parts so, I made this style.

This is good for travel or sports because you can wear a hat withought losing your earrings!

I would like to make other color one and other styles more :)

Carnelian Kanzashi

Carnelian Kanzashi

During the trip to Shasta, I went to Stone shop.

It was my first time to go to stone store, so I was surprised there were so many  stones in store.

Especially, I was interested in stone beads ,because the colors of stones were different even though the type of stone was same.  They had different colors, size, and shapes, so I enjoyed avidly choosing them :)

One of my friends who went to there together asked me if I could make a Kanzashi for her friend's birthday present. Of course I agreed her, and she chose some stone beads for her friend.

The main stone which she chose was Carnelian, and she chose some purple stones as a point color. These stones are very individual colors, so I added a lotus flower charm to make it more  individual style.

The main stone, Carnelian,  is beautiful brownish red, and some people say the stone helps you  to overcome the ear of public speaking, increases the self worth, and is a fast acting stone to succeed in one's career.

I realized the colors of stones were interesting, so I would like to making other stone items in the future!

I also bought other stone for me, so when I finish making the kanzashi, I'm going to write about it :)

There were a lot of beautiful place such as water falls, lakes, and mountains.

Fuji, but  the beautiful mountain is the symbol of Shasta city.  We could see it everyweher, so I enjoyed seeing it from morning to evening.

After getting derk, I saw a lot of stars!! Actually, I saw milky way and shooting stars! I didn't expect I could see them, so I was so happy!!

I remember when I was a child, I saw the milky way in my parents' home town, and I went to see shooting stars with my mother.

I made this kanzashi for individual one.

As you can see the picture, the blue tonbodama has pink rose, so those blue and pink beads go well with the ball. Moreover, blue and pink are kind of opposing colors, so when I use them together, the items look unique. I also made the earrings which I used same beads as the kanzashi. To show unique style, I put very long chains ;)

She said these colors suited her taste and they went well one of her favorite Japanese animation character!

She told me her sister liked kind of subdued colors and didn't like bririant color such as pink and red.

However, I heared she was young, so I tried to make not only subdued but also cute earrings for her.

First, I decided to use gray and beige for main colors ,because I thought peole who liked subdued colors probably had some these colors cloths. Then, I picked the pink beads as a point color.

I understood she didn't like pink, but I dare to use the pink beads.

Actually, the beads normaly looked subdued pink, but it sparkled in the sunshine, so I thought it was ok for someone who usually didn't like pink.

I heared she liked the earrings :) I'm glad to hear from her!

Bon festival in Japan

In Japan, bon period takes place every year from August 13 to 16th.

Usually, we call the period " Obon " , and it held to welcome back the spirits of the dead.

So, many people recieve company holidays during the period and go back to their hometowns, and every household welcomes back its ancestors'  departed souls to this world.

For the reason, Obon is an important family gathering time for Japanese people.

During the period, there are traditional folk dancing festivals called " Bon Odori " all over Japan.

Originally,  the dances were held to console departing spirits, but today they are simply enjoyed as entertainment.  When I lived in Japan, I used to go to Bon-Odori with my friend every year :)

After the earthquake, the first Obon is coming in Japan. I pray their soul may rest in peace.

The Color of Magic!

brown kanzashi and purple earrings

I like Kanzashi and earrings set ,because you look more attractive with both of them :)

This set is for one of my customers who likes purple color.

When she ordered, she asked me if I had any purple Tonbodama because the color was her most favorite color. Unfortunately, I didn't have any purple one at that time, but I was sure that the deep brown Tonbodama   went well with purple beads! SO, I made those set and sent the picture by e-mail to her.

She was surprised that the ball looked like purple, and said these items suited her taste :)

I'm really glad to hear from her and keep enojoying the color of magic!

Crystal blue earrings

blue tonbodama with orange rose earrings

One of my customer ordered this earrings for her friend's birthday present.

I usually use Tonbodama, which is Japanese handmade glass ball, for Kanzashi items, but she wanted to give her big gorgeous earrings. So, I desided to make the Tonbodama earrings.

When I showed her all my Tonbodama, she was really excited about choosing them.

All my customers who like jwelries are excitd about seeing the beautiful glass balls,   so I always have to say " Take your time! I can wait :) "

Sometimes they are torn to between basic colors and pop colors, or Japanese style and gorgeous style, so I ask them if they have specific ocasion they want to wear the item, or  what color of clothing they like.

I really like converse with my customers about items, because 100% customer satisfaction  is my goal.

If you have any questions or requests, feel free to contact me ;)

Healing Flowers

flowers

Whenever I see flowers, they make me smile :)

When I lived in Japan, my parents always planted flowers in the gaden, so I enjoyed flowers of seasons.

Have you ever heared " Yamato Nadeshiko" ?

"Yamato Nadeshiko" is a term most often used to describe "perfect Japanese beautiful woman" who has  beauty, modesty, grace, gentle disposition, and so on.

"Yamato" means Ancient Japan, and "Nadeshiko" is one of the flowers which called Pink in English.

Actually, Japan women's national football team is called " Nadeshiko Japan ", and they won 2011 FIFA Women's world cup on July 17.

We were really impressed and given courage by their soccer, so all Japanese are really proud of them.

Thank you " Nadeshiko Japan"!!  The name is suitable for you :)

From old calender, the first day of Autumn started from August 8th in Japan this year.

The name of the first Autumn day is " Risshu ", and it is one of the 24 soler turms, which is traditional Easyern Asia lunisolar calender.

"Autumn" has already started by the luna calender, but actual temperature will increase from now.

We still have opportunity to enjoy summer fashion, so let's enjoy it :)

California Sky

California blue sky

When I moved in California, I was surprised the color of the sky.

It is almost sunny every day and the sky is soooo beautiful deep blue!!!!!

In Japan, the sky is little more pale blue and we often see cumulonimbus cloud called " Nyu-dou-gumo" in Summer.  "Kumo (gumo)" is cloud, and " Nyu-dou " has some meanings such as a monk and a man with shaven head, but one of the meaning is " huge monster "!!

Maybe people thought that the cumulonimbus cloud shape looked like the monster :)

Actually, there are a lot of different names of clouds in Japan.

August is the hottest month of the year in Japan, and It is so hot and incredibly humid!!!!!!

I really love beautiful california weather and enjoy it every day, but I don't know why sometimes miss the unpleasant season in Japan :)

Power of Red

red butterfly hair stick

I used a lot of Red Beads for this Kanzashi!

Some people say Red is the color of energy, and many people who like the color is positive.

When I wear Red cloths or accessories, they make me happier or more cheerful :)

We call Red " Aka" in Japanese, and we call baby  "Aka-chan", by the way.

It is because that babies have thin skin, so their skin looks red.

I think the " Aka-chan " is suitable word for them because they are full of energy!

I hope the Kanzashi makes you happy :)

Beautiful " Hanabi "

fireworks festival in Japan

There are numerous summer festivals in Japan.

One of the populer festivals are fireworks festival, called " Hanabi Taikai".

We call fireworks " hanabi ", because  it means flowerly fire.

We enjoy viewing them in “yukata ”, a very casual type of cotton kimono, while eating snacks and drinking.  When I lived in Japan, I went to see Hanabi with my friends or family every summer.

I really want to go to there every time summer has come :)

I heared many festivals were canceled after the eathquake because of deep sorrow.

We have the word " Jishuku " in Japanese, and the word expression has no exact English equivalent.

"Jishuku: to choose to hold back your feelings or behavior, self-imporsed control. "

We need share the pains of the disaster, but I still miss beautiful Hanabi in Japan.

I'm thinking about new Kanzashi which remind me about the beautiful Hanabi :)

Dear my best friends!

Book mark for my best friend (Gold)

It was one of my best friends' birthday last Monday.

I desided to make a bookmark for her ,and make other color one for another best friend.

Because they are, so to speak,  book-worms :)

When I make original items for someone, I always think what is their taste, or what color suites their image.  Actually, It is my favorite process!

Almost all people have favorite color or image color, so I always think about them, and  choose beads, tonbodama, or charm for them.

Similarly, some customers gave me repeat orders, so when I choose new materials, I sometimes think " Maybe she likes this beads." or " This color might suite her taste ".

Of course, I'm not sure it's true or not, and even though I don't know their faces, I still enjoy doing this.

Today, my friend sent me message and she said she liked the book mark, and it was really her taste.
I'm glad to hear from her! They are my precious friends, even though we are not able to see easily, so I always hope their happiness.
Happy happy birthday, dear my friends!
I live far away from Japan, but I always feel you near :)

一期一会 <Ichigo - Ichie >

kanzashi for special day

There are a lot of  " yoji-jyukugo " which four character kanji compounds in Japan.

I would like to talk about my favorite one which is " Ichigo - Ichie" .

It means that " enjoy every encounter because it may not come to you again " .

It was the original concept for Japanese tea celemony; sadou.

Actually, " ichigo - ichie " is used as the movie subtitle of Forrest Gump for Japan's release .

Every time when I get orders from my customers, I remember  the words.

There are numerous websites all over the world, and it is the miracle that you reach my website!!

This is one of  the "Ichigo- Ichie " stories  between Magruder family and me :)

I really appreciate for all your visitting and I hope you will come back  here again!!

Japan relief items

phone charm for JAPAN relief

On March 11, 2011 Japan was devastated by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake, major tsunamis, and now there are serious threats of nuclear radiation.

When I watched the news first time, I didn't believe that it happened in my country and I couldn't stop crying.   After that, I have been thinking that what can I do for my country, and started making couple of items to donate to Japan.

I made the charm and earrings which were based on my country's flag.

Actually, numerous customers gave me orders. I have been feeling a lot of kindness of people who are from over the world.  This is one of my customer's reviews on her blog .

I know a lot of people have been already helping and praying for Japan.

We are really thankful for all your support!

It was my first time to make original jewerlies.
